EPA Issues Final Hazardous Waste Emissions Standards

Article-EPA Issues Final Hazardous Waste Emissions Standards

Washington – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued final emissions standards for hazardous waste combustors that aim to remove harmful pollutants from the environment. The National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants will affect 145 facilities that burn hazardous waste and will require them to use the maximum achievable pollution control technology (MACT).

The final standards will reduce emissions of pollutants such as lead, mercury, arsenic, hydrogen chloride, chlorine gas, dioxin and furans. This rule will become effective 60 days after it is published in the Federal Register.
