The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has approved a proposal by Conestoga Landfill in Berks County, Pa., for a pipeline system to send landfill gas to Lancaster County, Pa., where it will be converted into electricity.

The Morgantown, Pa., Intelligencer Journal reports that Granger Energy of Morgantown will build a gas-treatment facility near the landfill, and use a 9-mile pipeline built and operated by UGI Utilities to deliver 7,500 cubic feet of methane gas per minute to businesses in Lancaster County, which will convert it to electricity.

Allied Waste, Phoenix, owns Conestoga Landfill.
