A recent investigation of City of Sacramento garbage collectors discovered wasted time and tax dollars. But, City Auditor Jorge Oseguera stopped the investigation there.
He says he had planned to audit the Public Works Department to look for wastes of time and money, but stopped to avoid any accusations of conflicts of interest.
"My brother actually works for a solid-waste hauler. And, looking into the variety of issues that might come up during a performance audit (of the Public Works Department) we thought could raise the perception that there could be a potential conflict. And, so as to avoid that perception altogether, we decided to recuse ourselves."
