Wheelabrator Saugus estimates that the ash landfill at their Saugus facility will reach permitted capacity between June and December of 2017.

Wheelabrator Saugus Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety Jim Connolly said that shipping recovered metals to a Shrewsbury facility, lowered vegetation height and a new, thinner landfill cap design contributed to the increased space available.

Wheelabrator is currently operating under its ninth Department of Environmental Protection consent order, which permits the ash landfill to operate until it reaches a 50-foot capacity.
