Pitkin County Raising Tipping Fees at Landfill

The Pitkin County Landfill will be raising its rates for three common materials brought to the dump by a 2.8 percent clip next year.
 
Brian Pettet, public works director, told the Pitkin County commissioners last week that it would be sensible to raise rates on municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, and single-stream recycling in light of increasing amounts of materials coming into the facility. 
 
“This will increase revenues at the landfill and even in this time of economic upturn, with the amount of material coming to the landfill, we think it’s a prudent move for the county to raise rates,” he said. “The last increase the county made was about eight years ago, and it’s time for an increase to take place.”
