This week, Ohio University students are able to donate reusable items during Move-Out Week thanks to the university’s collaboration with the City of Athens, Athens-Hocking Recycling Center and local nonprofits.
Students can place donated items in more than 45 on-campus and 14 off-campus donation and recycling sites. In addition to those sites, each residence hall is outfitted with designated areas to donate sealed and non-perishable food items, carpet/rugs, furniture and household items.
The City of Athens also has 15 drop-off sites located throughout the city, which are accepting small working appliances, furniture, books, clothing, unopened food and other high-quality, reusable goods.

Ohio University is partnering with the city of Athens, Athens-Hocking Recycling Center, and local nonprofits to provide on- and off-campus students with opportunities to donate all reusable items during Move-Out Week.
The end-of-school-year Athens ritual runs from Monday, April 25, through Sunday, May 1.
With a collection goal of 36 tons of reusable goods and six tons of food, this year’s move-out is shaping up to be the largest donation effort in OU’s history, according to a news release.
