Within the next six months, Lewis County residents should no longer have to sort out their recyclables.
The Lewis County Solid Waste Department intends to enter an agreement, approved by county legislators Tuesday, allowing recyclables collected at transfer stations in Lowville and Croghan to be trucked to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority recycling center in Utica for the next five years. That center features a single stream system that sorts out different types of recyclables on site, mostly through automation.
“Everything goes in one bucket,” Legislator Craig P. Brennan, R-Deer River, chairman of the legislative Solid Waste Committee, told his fellow lawmakers Tuesday.
