Lee’s Summit’s landfill will become a privately run operation this spring, following a City Council vote to hire a company to manage the facility and a transfer station once the landfill closes.
The decision to approve a contract with Summit Waste Systems LLC, a subsidiary of Heartland Environmental Services, came Thursday night despite a request from residents of neighborhoods near the landfill to delay the vote or turn down the contract.
