Jamaica to Spend $250M on New Waste & Recycling Trucks

Article-Jamaica to Spend $250M on New Waste & Recycling Trucks

The Jamaican government has allocated $250 million to the National Solid Waste Management Authority for the procurement of new garbage trucks. It’s part of a long-term effort to boost the nation’s waste and recycling infrastructure.

The Jamaica Information Service has the details:

The sum is part of $255 million provided to the agency in the 2016/17 Estimates of Expenditure now before the House of Representatives.

The remaining $5 million will go towards engaging the services of a consultant/firm to assist in preparing a proposal for implementation of an ‘End of Life Tyre Facility’ to manage the risks caused by discarded tyres at the island’s disposal site.

The NSWMA was established in April 2002 to effectively manage and regulate the collection and disposal of solid waste in Jamaica.
