City Responds to Explosion at Landfill

The Brownsville Fire Department is still investigating the cause of an explosion at the City Municipal Solid Waste Landfill, off of 9000 FM 802, which occurred at about 9:46 p.m. Wednesday night.

The explosion happened near the entrance to the landfill at the tire facilities section and caused a large fire, which was promptly extinguished by firefighters, said Roxanna Rosas, city spokeswoman.

“It was a relatively large fire, but the fire department was able to respond immediately,” Rosas said.
