Spartanburg, S.C.-based Atlas Organics teamed up with Greenville County, S.C., to open the state’s first public/private composting facility at the Twin Chimneys landfill. At the new facility, workers will turn the landfill’s food and yard waste into compost that can be redistributed into local agriculture, landscaping and home gardening.
Operations began last month, and the first batch of finished compost is slated to be available in July.
