By 2020, the Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division aims to divert 75 percent of waste away from landfills, according to the city’s waste reduction goals set in 2010.
On Nov. 9, during America Recycles Week, Athens moved closer to this reduction goal by opening its Center for Hard to Recycle Materials.
“We are excited by the opportunities presented by the new CHaRM, which will make it easier to recycle items both from the community and the campus,” University of Georgia Office of Sustainability Director Kevin Kirsche said. “Students should know that it exists, and they should be using it.”
