Now in its 25 year of service, the Springfield Materials Recycling Facility has diverted 1 million tons of recyclables from ending up in a landfill or from incineration, saved the Western Massachusetts communities $62 million in avoided dumping costs, and earned communities over $14.5 million in revenues from the sale of materials.
This according to Greg Superneau, assistant solid waste manager, as he recently released the figures in a guest editorial written for The Republican.
