Green Gas Americas Inc. has purchased Lime Energy Co.’s landfill gas-to-energy project in Charlotte County, Fla., for an undisclosed amount.
Palm City, Fla.-based Green Gas acquired Lime Energy’s 2.8 megawatt landfill gas-to-energy operation through the Huntersville, N.C.-based Lime Energy’s subsidiary, GES-Port Charlotte LLC, the companies said in a news release. The project is located on the Charlotte County landfill and sells power to Orlando Utilities Commission.
Lime applied the net proceeds from the sale to pay off the loan to fund the construction of the facility.
The operation won the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program’s Landfill Project of the Year for 2011.
“This acquisition marks an important milestone for Green Gas Americas to further expand our company’s mission of building a portfolio of landfill gas-to-energy projects,” said Duncan Cox, Green Gas president.
Green Gas International, which owns Green Gas Americas, now has 120 megawatts of energy projects it owns and operates.
