GP Harmon Buys Plastics Recycling Firm

GP Harmon Recycling has purchased The Highlands Group Inc.’s plastics recycling facility in Elizabethton, Tenn., for an undisclosed amount.

The Jericho, N.Y.-based subsidiary of Georgia-Pacific said in a news release the acquisition expands GP Harmon’s recycling technologies and service offerings.

The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Highlands Group’s plastics facility specializes in separating polymers from mixed material streams to create high-grade plastic raw materials for use in a range of commercial purposes.

The move also helps GP Harmon expand its plastics recycling business, said Marc Forman, president of the company. GP Harmon expanded from paper recycling in 2007 to include materials such as plastics and metal.
