David Steiner, CEO of Houston-based Waste Management Inc. (WM), is pictured with “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno after WM won a motorcycle that Leno was auctioning off to support the Asian tsunami relief effort. On behalf of WM, Steiner made a bid of $800,100 for the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which sat on the “Tonight Show” set for several weeks and was autographed by many of the program's guests. The proceeds from the bid will help fund the American Red Cross' ongoing relief programs.
The motorcycle purchase is not the only way in which WM has contributed to the tsunami relief effort. The firm also has announced that it will match contributions that its employees make to relief organizations.
