A report prepared for the Alexandria, Va.-based American Trucking Associations estimates that the long-haul, heavy-duty trucking industry currently has a shortfall of about 20,000 drivers. If current demographic trends hold, that shortage could grow to about 111,000 by 2014. The report, “U.S. Truck Driver Shortage Analysis and Forecasts” was prepared by Boston-based Global Insight Inc.
