GARBAGE HAULING CAN be rough work, especially when you're new to the job and your route. That is what one truck driver found out in July when he wedged his truck under a railroad bridge in Omaha, Neb. The driver, who had been on the job only two weeks, was heading home from his route when he underestimated the height of his truck and plowed into the 12-foot, 4-inch clearance bridge. While a tow truck worked to remove the garbage truck, the driver was taken to the hospital for observation. At least two trucks per year hit the bridge, according to Omaha police. So while his buddies might be handing him “Rookie of the Year” awards, this new hauler should just think of his accident as a rite of passage.
