The state of Maine's Senate has blocked out-of-state haulers from dumping 16 tractor-trailers' worth of construction demolition waste in its landfills every day.
Massachusetts is the main source of the debris that arrives at the Juniper Ridge Landfill. About 30 percent os the waste at the site originates from out of state, according to officials.
The bill also allows for expansion of recycling for construction and demolition debris, of which 97 percent is currently not being recycled in the state.
