In October 2016, concerns were raised about waste hauler Rizzo Environmental Services after allegations that the company paid bribes to Clinton, Mich., Township Trustee Dean Reynolds for preferential treatment on a contract was released.
Now, Macomb County, Mich., officials Brett Harris and Christopher Craigmiles have pled guilty to taking bribes from an undercover agent in exchange for their votes on what they thought was a future Rizzo waste contract.
Detroit Free Press has more information:
Two friends pleaded guilty today in a Macomb County public corruption scandal involving bribes, a popular garbage company and an undercover FBI agent who posed as businessman looking for political favors.
And for the first time since the FBI disclosed its sweeping corruption probe last year, the now-defunct garbage empire, Rizzo Environmental Services, was publicly outed as the trash hauler at the center of the scandal, which involves politicians taking bribes from Rizzo in exchange for their votes on lucrative garbage contracts.
