Two weeks ago, Waller County commissioners who were meeting expected to be presented with the terms of a settlement that would call an end to a lawsuit over a controversial proposed landfill.
When that didn't happen, they and attorneys for the plaintiffs remained optimistic that an agreement would be reached in time for county commissioners to vote on it this week. But as of Wednesday morning, there was still no deal.
And so, with just over a week left before the case goes to a hearing, the window of opportunity for a settlement is closing.
