Due to delays in obtaining a current air pollution control permit, operators of a Beaver County landfill may be sued by a citizen-led environmental organization. The group, called GASP, or Group Against Smog and Pollution, recently sent the landfill a notice of intent to sue under the Clean Air Act and Pennsylvania Air Pollution Control Act after the landfill operators' “continued failure” to submit a timely application for a Title V operating permit. The New Sewickley Township J.J. Brunner landfill also received a notice of violation in 2021 for the installation and operation of air contamination sources without DEP authorization.
“Such permits make it easier to determine whether or not the source is complying with those limits and restrictions" states GASP.
