After a series of recent fires in 2022, the Caton Limited Purpose Landfill lost its operating permit.

Yakima, Wash. officials approved a measure to reinstate the permit following extensive testing around the damage and possible environmental ramifications of the fires. The district examined air quality and determined there was no longer a threat to the public.

Officials continue to work with the landfill's operator to ensure there continues to be no public risk.
