Trash Fire at Flagstaff, Arizona Landfill

Article-Trash Fire at Flagstaff, Arizona Landfill

landfill fire

The Cinder Lakes Landfill in Flagstaff, Arizona reported a fire. The fire department was on the scene and quickly contained the fire.

Trash fires are different from a house or brush fire. Landfills use their equipment to dig out all of the burning trash, spread it out over a safe area and then smother it on the top. Typically, what burns in a landfill fire is the last two feet of trash because it is not compacted yet.

In the spring and summer, landfill fires could be a lithium ion battery or some type of automobile battery and in the fall or winter, it would typically be caused by residential fireplace ashes.
