River Birch LLC has reached an agreement to take over the remaining three-and-a-half years of Waste Connections' contract to operate the Jefferson Parish, La. landfill.

The company must first seek the approval of the parish council, which could review the proposal on December 9. Council has invested millions of dollars in the past two years to upgrade the landfill's gas and liquid collection systems.

Council members are interested in the move, but they want to see a detailed plan for the aging asset.
