Scientists and engineers at the University of Texas recently discovered a useful enzyme that can break down plastics.
The enzyme is praised as the first discovered to work in a reasonable range of temperatures for practical use. While the field of discovering enzymes for this purpose is around 15 years old, the recent discovery proves this is a viable solution to the large amounts of plastics compiling on planet Earth.
While obviously beneficial to the waste industry, the breakthrough is being inspected for a number of possible uses.
