Residents of Ontario, Canada send nearly 12 million tons of waste to landfills each year.  

With so much waste and with new legislation making it impossible to build new landfills, Ontario has a waste disposal problem. The province is expected to run out of waste disposal capacity by 2032.

Recycling, composting and energy recovery are important solutions, but they won’t solve the amount of waste that is sent to landfills. The province needs to consider building new landfills to manage the waste.
