The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority is claiming it incurred $24 million in tipping fee losses following the closure of the Keegan Landfill.

Nearby residents previously complained of "noxious fumes that irritated eyes and throats and often forced homeowners to head indoors and shut their windows."

A lawsuit has been filed to reimburse the authority of legal fees as well as the costs of closing the landfill. The suit states it generated $12 million in profit when the landfill was in operation.

Keegan was the last operating landfill in the Meadowlands.
