Mulch Fire Spreads to Recyclables at Tajiguas Landfill

Mounds of compost caught fire on the evening of Thursday, May 12 at the Tajiguas Landfill in Santa Barbara County, Calif.

The piles continued to smoulder after the initial outbreak, which started near an anaerobic digestion facility. This is the second fire the facility has encountered since it opened in July 2021. 

The Alisal Fire, which occurred in October, burned nearly 17,000 acres.
