Mayor Declares Emergency While Louisiana Landfill Continues to Burn

A spontaneous combustion caused a fire at a C&D landfill in Scott, La., on December 3. As a result, Lafayette Mayor Josh Guillory issued a state of emergency on Christmas Eve as the fire continues to burn.

Even though residents who live nearby have been complaining of fumes, no evacuations have been ordered. The fire chief has noted that the fire is about 35 ft. to 40 ft. deep.

Work continues to stop the vapors from escaping.
