Enid, Okla officials are working to expand the city's landfill and lower the amount of methane being produced, which has risen beyond acceptable levels.

Civil and Environmental Consultants will perform a site assessment and survey work on 150 acres of city-owned farmland bordering the existing landfill. Permit approval could take three to five years.

Although five passive vents were installed in May 2017 near one of the landfill’s 12 gas probes in order to alleviate methane at the site, levels have risen since then. A landfill gas remediation plan must be completed with a deadline of Feb. 7, 2021.
