Officials from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management have fined the city of Decatur after inspectors discovered numerous violations at the Decatur-Morgan Landfill.
According to news reports, the agency also found "fluid seeping into a creek" coming from the site, which the city oversees. A corrective action plan must be submitted by early March, and the city must pay more than $30,000 in fines.
Inspectors also found city workers failed to provide an adequate amount of soil cover at the end of the day.
