SOUTHAVEN, MS – December 18, 2024 – Two Waste Pros are being hailed as heroes after jumping into action to save a resident’s life while on their daily route. While Calvin Williams and Tony Henry were servicing the City of Southaven, they came across Bob Miller lying in his driveway, bleeding from his head. A few minutes earlier, Mr. Miller walked to put another bag of trash in his cart and fell. Before his wife could call for help, a Waste Pro truck entered the neighborhood and approached the Miller’s driveway.

When Calvin and Tony saw Mr. Miller lying on the driveway, they sprang into action; Calvin dialed 911 while Tony got paper towels and applied pressure to stop the bleeding from Mr. Miller's head. When paramedics arrived, they treated Mr. Miller for his head injury and thanked our Waste Pro Angels, as Mrs. Miller, the victim’s wife, called them.

To show her family’s appreciation, Mrs. Miller came to the local Southaven divisional office to thank these two workers and share their story with their managers. She wanted to make sure everyone knew what outstanding employees they were.

“Community is more than just our motto – it’s something we all carry within our Waste Pro DNA. I feel blessed to have Calvin and Henry as part of our Southaven Division. Jumping into action and utilizing safety training changed the outcome of the holiday season for the Miller family,” shared Division Vice President Jon Snyder.

As Mrs. Miller described it, Calvin and Tony pulled over, held napkins to his head wound, called 911, & waited until the EMS workers came to check him out. Their quick action saved his life. Mr. Miller is continuing to recover and is taking things slowly. But thanks to these two heroes' quick thinking and action, he will celebrate with his family for another holiday season.
