Who needs a figurine of Saint Christopher — the patron saint of travel — when you have a chicken and a hatchet on hand? A driver in Elmhurst, Ill., forgot to take the law into consideration when, while sitting at an intersection, he threw a beheaded chicken out of his window to generate good luck for his impending travels.
The religious sacrifice, however, apparently didn't create enough positive energy. A police officer caught sight of the flying chicken and stopped the man. After authorities determined that the bird hadn't been tortured, the driver was charged with illegal dumping of garbage or “other offensive substance,” a crime that he plead guilty to.
