Texas Disposal Implementing Bag Recycling Program

Article-Texas Disposal Implementing Bag Recycling Program

Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) has begun implementing its own program to collect single-use plastic bags for recycling.

TDS, based in Creedmoor, Texas, outside of Austin, said in a news release it is operating its first single-stream contract, including the company’s “Bag-the Bag” program, with the city of Georgetown. TDS collects both single-use plastic bags and plastic film bags through the program. Residents can stuff large quantities of the bags in a special stuffer bag that can be placed in the curbside recycling cart.

Austin has a bag restriction law set to take effect in March. TDS says the city currently doesn’t include bags in its curbside collection and recycling program.

"Bag-the-Bag gives a recycling option for all types of plastic film, including single-use bags, and would allow business to proceed as usual," said Jennifer Gregory, TDS marketing director. "Texas Disposal Systems is invested in making program participation information accessible as other municipal customers are expressing interest in adding our program to their current curbside recycling program."
