Trucking Company Settles Hazardous Waste Dumping Allegations

After allegations of illegally dumping hazardous waste in Alameda County, Calif., Old Dominion Freight Line has agreed to pay a civil penalty of a total of $1.36 million to the county.

The waste included commercial chemical products, paint materials, electronic devices, batteries, ignitable liquids, etc., and was allegedly disposed of in company trash receptacles and hauled out of state without a transporter's registration. The hauling company announced the implementation of better hazardous waste compliance procedures.

"The protection of our community and the environment are top priorities of our office," says Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley.
