Rizzo Environmental Services will take on waste and recycling hauling duties in Southfield, Mich., effective July 1. It will take over for Waste Management, who had the town’s previous contract.
Hometownlife.com has the report:
“Rizzo offered a substantial savings,” Mayor Ken Siver said. “Our residents will see a reduction on their tax bill of about $35, $40. We just felt that all things being equal that they were going to provide the same service; and, they are offering a large recycling cart because they have trucks that pick up the bins — they’re offering those for free. Otherwise, everything is exactly the same.”
New 64-gallon recycling carts are available for free for all residents, but they can still use their current recycling bin if preferred. To order a recycling cart, call 866-772-8900 or visit www.rizzoservices.com and click on the “City of Southfield” link.
Siver said it was a difficult decision to part ways with Waste Management, which has served the city for more than 15 years.
“I’m sorry that they weren’t more competitive,” Siver said. “But it is a substantial reduction. Secondly, they are offering an identical contract but for less money. It’s substantial; it’s not nickel and dime, it’s a substantial reduction for folks.
