Charleston County has signed a contract with the Horry County Solid Waste Authority, and will truck its recyclables to the group’s Conway facility for the next two years.

County Councilwoman Colleen Condon, chairwoman of the group’s Solid Waste and Recycling Committee, said the arrangement will cost the county about $100 for each truckload of recyclables. Horry County will pay Charleston County $425 per load of recyclables, but it will cost Charleston County about $525 per truckload to transport them there.

The contract is based on a “base market value” for recyclables of $150 per ton. If the value of recyclables increases more than 10 percent, the county will get a share of the profit. If the value drops more than 10 percent below that amount, the county will share in the cost.
