In an effort to reduce costs, the City of Houston has cut its curbside glass recycling program. But Tristan “Pan” Berlanga, a local third grader, noticed this change and decided to start up his own glass recycling collection service with David Krohn, his older sister’s boyfriend.
Berlanga and Krohn recently launched Hauling Glass Houston, which consists of a small warehouse on the east end of the city. For just $10, they will pick up glass every other week in the zip code of 77007.
The duo is also working on expanding their services to The Heights.
KHOU has the details:
The city of Houston recently stopped curbside glass recycling to cut costs, but a third grader noticed.
Now he's taking matters into his own hands to keep the glass out of landfills.
With one very old car, in a small warehouse on the east end, two guys are starting out on a big mission.
