The City of Portage, Mich. has announced a new food scrap recycling program that will give residents an easy way to dispose of food scraps and keep the material out of landfills.

The Food Scraps Recycling Program in Portage, Mich. has established ten lime green bins in the area for residents. Residents simply need to collect their food scraps and drop them off in one of the designated bins around the city.

This new program, which just started this month, will run through December 2025. Once the pilot program is complete, the city will assess the program’s results and decide whether the program should be permanent.
