Reseachers studying agricultural waste streams have found 40 crops that could be used for fashion fibers.
Some of the excess crops that could be easily grown and converted to textiles include rice, wheat and other grain straws; banana stems, sugarcane ‘trash’ and pineapple leaves.
Benefits of turning the crops into viable textiles include reducing waste and pollution and being able to produce a raw material with little environmental impact.
