The state of Connecticut is witnessing an increase in the amount of trash its residents produce. This upward trend comes alongside the closing of the Materials Innovation and Recycling Authority trash-burning plant in Hartford earlier this year, which helped to reduce the amount of waste that made it to landfills. On October 25th, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced it will begin helping cities and towns set up food waste recycling programs by offering them a grant. In total, $5 million will be given out.
