Agora Tech Lab was founded with a goal to help leverage policy ideas using blockchain technology. Based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Agora is developing its first pilot with the municipality of Rotterdam and several local organizations. The company’s tamper-proof blockchain helps it register waste management-related transactions. Based on these transactions, citizens who are part of the ecosystem get rewarded with credits that can be exchanged for local services from private and public partners. Agora’s goal is to integrate IoT waste systems into its ecosystem, creating a fully monitored blockchain-based waste management system. Blockchain allows Agora to execute its operations relatively cheap and is now its IT infrastructure. This allows the company to offer a scalable service without having to invest huge sums into the development of an IT infrastructure.
