The annual bill for trash collection at a single family home will jump to an estimated $194.28 a year, up from $139.70 a year.

Florida County commissioners have voted for a new trash contract with Waste Management at a 39 percent rate increase.

Under the new contract, the annual bill for trash collection at a single family home will jump to an estimated $194.28 a year, up from the current $139.70 a year, Florida Today reports. The $54.58-a-year increase will take effect for the next budget year, which begins October 1, and will appear as a separate charge on property tax bills.

Florida Today has more:

County commissioners didn't necessarily like it, but they narrowly approved a new seven-year contract with Waste Management Inc. for trash pickup.

The contract — approved in a 3-2 vote — will result in a 39% increase in rates for Waste Management customers in unincorporated Brevard County who have single-family homes.
