Republic Services Inc. has nearly tripled the recycling capacity of its Oberlin, Ohio, facility.
The Phoenix-based Republic said in a news release the Lorain County Resource Recovery Facility can now process up to 150,000 tons of recyclables annually after the plant retrofit.
Republic said it updated all technology at the facility and added 12,000 square feet for more warehouse space. The project cost $15 million.
The facility can now accept more types of materials for recycling, including plastics 1-7. The plant’s new system produces less than 10 percent residual waste.
The renovated recycling center, which serves five counties in northeast Ohio, is designed to run at 35 tons per hour.
