Pa. Landfill Proposes to Double its Capacity

IESI Blue Ridge Landfill wants to double the amount of waste at its municipal landfill in Greene Township, Pa.

Representatives for IESI and officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection attended a meeting Wednesday at the Greene Township Municipal Building as part of the application and permitting process.

Samuel J. Donato Jr., district manager for IESI, said the company's collection business is growing.

“Our local collection agency, based out of the Chambersburg (Pa.) area, is growing, and we're expanding our business to the south and to the southeast,” Donato said.

Donato said the company picks up trash in Franklin County, Cumberland County, Hagerstown, West Virginia, New York and New Jersey.

“As our collection business is growing, there is a need to increase our daily capacity,” he said.
