Based on a 2002 survey conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington, D.C., 13,000 employers have been notified that their injury and illness rates are higher than national averages. Companies that received letters averaged seven or more occurrences per 100 employees. OSHA wants companies to consider the letters a proactive move on the agency's part, rather than a negative message.
