Broader corporate demand for voluntary carbon offsets has increased this year (Ecosystem Marketplace). This reflects a commitment from companies voluntarily lowering the environmental impact of business operations. 

The market encompasses a wide range of pollution-preventing activities such as renewable energy, waste disposal schemes and forestry and land-use initiatives. A majority of the projects are in the developing world. The U.S. has 23 percent of the total projects with 44 percent of active projects in China, India, Turkey and Brazil.
