Bright Biomethane North America, which was recently established, announced that its first renewable natural gas (RNG) projects will be realized in New York. According to the company, these will be the first RNG projects on the East Coast with high-efficient 3-step membrane separation technology, and some of the first in the U.S. to use this technology.
Bright Biomethane’s 3-step membrane technology ensures high biomethane quality and CH4 (methane) recovery of at least 99.5 percent, with a methane loss of 0.5 percent.
The RNG projects will be delivered as part of a large upgrade project for Martin Energy Group, which includes an overhaul on five existing digesters and the replacement of the combined heat and power system with Bright Biomethane’s technology.
The projects will refine biogas produced from manure to produce RNG as a natural gas substitute.
According to Bright Biomethane, direct grid injection is not possible at all sites; therefore, its virtual pipeline solutions are used. In this solution, the gas is compressed to a high pressure, so it can be economically and safely transported to the grid entry point where the gas is injected into the pipeline.
“We are responsible from engineering up to commissioning and all that surrounds the biogas upgrading and virtual pipeline solution. We will combine our vast experience from Europe with manufacturing in the U.S. to get the best solution for each project,” said Chief Technology Officer Marcel te Braak in a statement.
