Electronics pose a huge issue for landfills if they’re just thrown away, however, one Wisconsin city just recycled a huge amount of electronics at a recent event.
When electronics sit in landfills, they not only take up a large amount of space, but they can also release harmful chemicals into the ground and water ways, making recycling e-waste very important. To get ahead of this, an event was held in Amherst, Wis. to help locals recycle their old electronics, diverting them from the nearby landfills.
At the event, 204 residents showed up, with some waiting in line an hour before the event started, to drop off their old electronics.
In total, 42,842 pounds of electronics and small appliances were recycled at the event.
“I am extremely thankful to the workers and volunteers who made this event a success!” Solid Waste Director Amanda Haffele said.
